Engagement Party Flowers for Ross and Liz

The engagement party setting By Oxide Design Montreal Florists

The engagement party setting

December 31st 2009 was a big day for Ross and Liz; their private and stunning engagement party held at Ross’s restaurant La Bella Italiana in St-Leonard.

We had the chance to bring beautiful flowers into an incredible space decorated by Liz. What better way to make our flowers glow than a stunning decor to match them! The color scheme was white, black and red. Liz rented chandeliers to which we added a huge ball of white hydrangeas, white feather boas, red gerberas and hanging black pearl necklaces. We also created a mini version of that arrangement for the head table.

What a great project that was, congratulations and all the best to the future bride and groom!

Our favorite wedding of ‘09

Our favorite wedding 09

Our favorite wedding 09

Here is the big winner of ‘09, the wedding that blew our minds and that got our creative juices flowing like no other, the most extravagant yet simple and beautiful; Sabrina and Jamie’s wedding at Koko!

From blue thistles to green moby dicks, purple monk’s hood to fushia dendrobium orchids and curly willow branches to actual artichokes, the variety unusual flowers was quite shocking. It was great for us to get to brainstorm to find the perfect balance between weird and magnificent, as requested by Sabrina, what a great challenge!

Hoping 2010 will bring us tones more exciting wedding projects, we would now like to officially close 2009 by thanking all the brides that gave us the opportunity to pick our brains and create, for them, wonderful designs last year, you are the reason we are so passionate about our work! Thank you!

Flower Color Schemes: Pastels and Whites

Pastel Flower Arrangements

Pastel Flower Arrangements

Pastels are a must for a soft and feminine look. The combination of pale colors is so light and aerie, almost like cotton candy!

White Flower Arrangements

White Flower Arrangements

The simplicity and elegance of white is a classic! It doesn’t mean that is has to be done in a traditional way, nothing says modern like white.

Purple color scheme

Blues and purples are not very common colors in flowers compared to other schemes, although we can find them more and more these days, the choice is limited. This is why we have to use our creativity to design wonderful arrangements using these precious colors!

Wedding Boutonnieres and Corsages

Boutonnieres and corsages

Attention to details is one of our most precious vertues, we definitely bring it when it comes to boutonnières and corsages!

These tiny flower arrangements need to blend in perfectly with the rest of the wedding flowers and every touch counts. Whether it is the use of the correct flowers (some flowers cannot be used as boutonnières or corsages because of their longevity out of water) or the finishing using proper colored ribbons or other accents repeated elsewhere (like pearls, crystals or specific leaves) the finished product will always look fabulous!

Boutonnieres and corsages

A little history:

A boutonnière is a floral decoration worn by men, typically a single flower or bud. The word comes from the French boutonnière, or buttonhole, which is the British term.

Traditionally, a boutonnière was worn pushed through the lapel buttonhole (on the left, the same side as a pocket handkerchief). However, on many recently made coats and jackets, the lapel is made without the stem loop required, which would normally sit on the reverse of the lapel, beneath the buttonhole. Sometimes, the lapel buttonhole is in the ‘keyhole’ shape, as opposed to the traditional straight cut, or is not even pierced through, in which case the boutonnière may be pinned onto the jacket lapel, although this is considered unsightly by many.

A corsage is an assembly of flowers worn on a woman’s dress or worn around her wrist. Corsages are often worn by the mothers and grandmothers of the bride and groom at a wedding ceremony.

Les Entreprises Plateau II Christmas Party!

oxide design montreal florists !

Helping out wrap the gifts for Les Entreprises Plateau II !

Holidays are all about giving, and boy did my cousin and uncle at Les Entreprises Plateau II in Brossard (where we have our tiny workshop) nailed the idea of what should be a Christmas party this year!

It was a surprise for all of us when we arrived, ready to have a fancy lunch party, and were told we were going shopping at Zellers instead. But we weren’t going shopping for ourselves, we were shopping for a women’s shelter, for victims of domestic violence.

We were divided in two teams and had an hour to find 10 seventy dollar gifts that would help those women who will have to start their new lives with nothing. From the kitchen, to the washroom, living room and bedroom, we couldn’t believe how many gifts we got for the price, it was amazing! We then went back to the boutique and wrapped all the gifts together while drinking wine and eating pizza, so much fun!

I actually got the privilege to deliver the gifts with my cousin at the end of the day, I can’t hide the fact that I got really emotional. What a better gift for yourself than to give to others in need.

Besides offering the Christmas gifts, Les Entreprises Plateau II have also offered to re-design the shelter’s lobby in January. I am so proud of my cousin and uncle for their generosity, I strongly recommand to everybody to create a similar experience for themselves, it is a great feeling!

Another 50th Birthday Party!

Birthday with a modern feel

Birthday with a modern feel

This year has been quite a festive one, with both my in-laws turning 50! A couple months ago, I showed you Lucie’s 50th birthday decorations, and now it is Joe’s turn to celebrate. My boyfriend and I LOVE entertaining, with him being a chef and my talent for design, it was only natural to have everybody over for a great looking feast!

I went for a very modern look, my decor being in the whites, blacks and grey, it was only natural for me to stay within those colors. I like an impact, so I decided to hang 30 silver balloons in a chuck around my chandelier, I love it! I don’t even want to take them down anymore! I particularly like how everything you see on my table comes either from Ikea or from Dollarama, who said you had to spend tones of money to achieve an amazing look…

After a 6 course Italian meal, champagne, wine, Sambuca and Porto, everyone had an awesome evening. The party was a true success and I wish Joe a year filled with joy and success, we love you!

Weekly December flowers for Goodman Private Wealth Management

Tulips Flower Arrangement by oxide design montreal Florists

Tulips Flower Arrangement

We got approached by Goodman Private Wealth Management to decorate their reception area with our flowers for the month of December!

Their decor being very crisp and modern, and their logo having a bit of orange, we chose as a color palet to work with whites, greens, a touch of orange and earth tones. We worked with white hydrangeas, orange tulips, green santinis, cedar, birch troncs and chocolate brown Christmas balls giving it a subtle Holiday feel.

Stay tuned for next weeks arrangement!
