Bouquet-soleil pour les 50 ans de ma Tante

Tulipes, craspedias et pincushions jaunes, bouquet by Oxide Design Montreal Floristes

The same touches in the finishing of the boutonnières and corsages are added to the bridal bouquet as well as the bridesmaid’s ones. Bridal Bouquet

The History:

The custom of bouquets has its origin in ancient times. Women carried aromatic bunches of garlic, herbs and spices to ward off evil spirits.

In ancient Greece and Rome, the bride and groom wore a garland around their necks, symbolizing new life, hope and fertility. Traditional Celtic bouquets included ivy, thistle and heather. The garland was not made of flowers but of strong-smelling herbs and spices. The strong-smells were thought to have mystical powers and meant to keep away evil spirits.

When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, the herbs and spices had been replaced by fresh flowers, especially marigolds. Edible flowers were still included in the bouquet. The bride would carry her arrangement as she walked down the aisle. The dill from the bride’s bouquet (also known as the herb of lust), was consumed by the bride, the groom, and their wedding guests during the reception, as the herb was meant to increase sexual desire!

A Bridal Bouquet for a Surprise-Wedding!

flower bouquets with roses, tulips and skimmia by o.xidesign florists Montreal

Bridal Bouquet for my Boyfriend's Mother

My boyfriend’s mother and stepfather went on a romantic trip to Spain and Portugal a couple weeks ago, how romantic you ask? Well romantic enough for them to sneak all the way to Gibraltar and, to everyone’s surprise, come back married!

I was so flattered when she told me that she couldn’t find a flower shop, had to buy flowers from the grocery store and finally opened her laptop to follow our blog for find tips and tricks on how to make her own bridal bouquet! So funny! Chris and I went to pick them up from the airport and we just had to give her the stunning bridal bouquet she deserved, using circus roses, fushia tulips, burgundy skimmia and green cordyline.

We are so happy for Marie-Andrée and Mike and still can’t believe the stunt they pulled on us, crazy kids! We wish them love and happiness for years to come!

DIY make a sexy bouquet

How to make a sexy bouquet

A lot of things inspire us, here is a funny one; a sexy light pink and offwhite bras! Why not? Let us show you how to create this bouquet!

What you’ll need:

  • 10 light pink double stocks
  • 2 white hydrangeas
  • wide offwhite satin ribbon
  • narrow light pink satin ribbon
  • small white feathers.

How to make it:

  1. Bunch the pink double stock together.
  2. Add the white hydrangeas around your bunch of pink double stock.
  3. Tie the stems right under the the base of the hydrangea and cut the stems to about 6’’ long.
  4. Start covering the stems with an offwhite satin ribbon working from the bottom of the stems all the way to the top.
  5. When you get to the top, make a knot and a big bow, add another layer with a small light pink satin ribbon, crisscrossing it to create a corset look.
  6. Stick white feathers randomly into the hydrangeas.

Here you go, you just got yourself one sexy bouquet!

Wedding Flowers

Annick and Martin are a young fresh urban couple from Montreal.

Their colors being eggplant and sage green, we played it off adding some lilac, purple and lime green to create an awesome color scheme! We used dark eggplant mini-Callas, lilac roses, purple Dendrobium Orchids, lime green Cymbidium Orchids and green Santinis. The stems of the bouquets and boutonnieres were wrapped in an eggplant ribbon with an accent of sage green ribbon.

We still have some pictures of their ceremony area arrangements to share with you next monday, stay tuned!

A Thank You Bouquet to a Special Babysitter

isn't it the perfect bouquet ?

The perfect bouquet for Patricia

Patricia is a very important person in my cousin Claudia’s life as she babysat her for many years.

Being that she is now retiring and having a party, Claudia asked me to create a special bouquet for that special someone. I used purple Mokara Orchids, dark Burgandy Dahlias and Pandanus leaves to help brighten everything up, the result is elegant, fun and beautiful.

She loved it!

Flowers For A Girly Cupcake Tea Party in Paris

Montreal Flowers: A girly cupcakes and tea party in Paris.

A girly cupcake tea party in Paris, was the inspiration behind this photoshoot that we’ve done a few months ago. The gorgeous pictures were taken by Amélie Cousineau, the very talented photographer behind many of the pictures you see on this blog.

We wanted to create a pink, girly, glamourous and luxurious ambiance. Now that I am thinking about it, I am realizing that maybe Gen, Amélie and I should have dressed up, and enjoyed tea and cupcakes on this set! Well, we were busy working. And looking at these pics, we’ve done a pretty good job, don’t you think? I am proud of this thematic.

The abundance of dark pink phalaenopsis orchid bouquets with their steams braded in fushia satin ribbons emerging from chandeliers on top of tall clear cylinder vases are definitely a show stopper. The small pink peony bouquets create a nice touch on the very festive table. J’aime, j’aime! And you?
